Focusing on whole-body health is what Bionica Dental Wellness is all about, and it’s why Dr. Holinbeck and our team are pleased to expand our services to include airway focused dentistry in Delafield. We recognize that many patients struggle to breathe freely at night – a problem that often stems from structural concerns associated with oral health. With the help of our in-house myofunctional therapist, we can recommend appropriate treatment that gets to the root of the problem and helps you start breathing better. If you want to finally get the rest you need to function at your best each day, call to schedule an appointment.
Airway focused dentistry focuses on how your oral health and the structural components inside your mouth (i.e., your teeth, gums, tongue, etc.) can cause sleep-disordered breathing. If you frequently experience interrupted sleep because of an obstructed airway, our team can examine these areas in your mouth and determine if or how they may be contributing to a serious problem that can have severe consequences if left untreated.
With airway focused dentistry, we can suggest helpful solutions that ultimately get to the root of the problem so that you can begin to breathe easier and rest more completely each night.
When meeting with you to discuss your situation, we will go over the various treatment options that are available in-house. Naturally, our approach is to ensure your whole body benefits from the recommended service provided, which may include:
Using a custom-made oral appliance, we can deliver a small, portable, and comfortable device that you can wear while you sleep. Once you insert it into your mouth, your jaw will move forward slightly so that any soft tissues that might otherwise fall back onto your throat are unable to do so. This keeps your airway open so that you can breathe freely throughout the night and wake up well-rested the next morning.
Another treatment option is the Homeoblock expander, which is an oral appliance that can be used to address sleep-disordered breathing, teeth grinding, and TMJ. Serving as a cross between a standard oral device for sleep apnea and a palate expander for pre-orthodontic treatment, the Homeoblock appliance widens the upper jaw and moves it forward so that over time, the lower jaw does the same, creating a taller bite. This change in facial structure helps improve your breathing and tooth alignment so that the chances of airway obstruction are significantly reduced.
Used to treat chronic cases of snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea, NightLase® is a form of treatment that targets oral tissues located toward the back of the throat and along the upper palate, tightening and shrinking specific areas that can normally cause airway obstruction. A laser is used to treat these tissues, and the process is completely painless with results lasting up to one year.
